Our recording of a tanpura instrument made by Gurdial Singh & Sons. It is accompanying the voice of a well-known Indian classical vocalist, who fortuitously happened to be in the shop at the same time as us!

During our travels in India, we have searched for the best quality manufacturers of classical Indian music instruments.

True quality in a product is the fruit of great craftsmanship, a deedful heart and mind with obediency to awakened self-awareness, and responsible business practices.

We feel grateful and fortunate to find such an understanding being put into practice at Gurdial Singh & Sons in Jalandhar, Punjab. A multi-generational family workshop that has extensive experience in making all kinds of classical Indian music instruments. Their current specialty is the manufacturing of Sitar, Tanpura, Tabla, and Dilruba.

Our mission here is to offer you a nature of instrument such as we ourselves would fully enjoy to play and practice with. As classically-trained musicians, we understand that one's instrument is a dearest friend that aids expression of the inner voice, and therefore must be built to fulfill the utmost of this purpose. We take care to ensure that each instrument meets this standard of excellence, and is carefully packaged to reach you in pristine condition.

Barun Ray, Hiren Roy's Son

Here's a little homemade video of our recent visit to the workshop of Barun Ray, Hiren Roy's Son - recognized for many years as the makers of high quality Sitars in Kolkata, India.

At first it appears a simple place - yet within this humbleness a depth of silent, hypnotic charm infuses the atmosphere while the instruments are lovingly created. From hours of meticulous craftsmanship, emerges a true companion, whose presence and potential is far greater than the sum of its parts. One can instinctively sense that these works of art are like living beings, inspiring spontaneous expression of heart and soul.

Internationally renowned musicians - including Sri Ravi Shankar, Nikhil Banerjee, Annapurna Devi and Vilayat Khan - have played on instruments created by these master craftsmen.
